Serious larks: Art, media, history
Welcome to Whimsy Boom by Andrew Rodgers and Iana Dontcheva. This is where we write about art, media, culture, politics, and history. To kick things off, we’ll periodically post thoughts and news about new developments in our areas of interest — and they’ll forever be free.
If and as things progress, we may provide additional stories — such as more in-depth analysis and original interviews — that require a small subscription cost to access. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.
As for us: Andrew is a writer and filmmaker; father of daughters; and hater of wet socks. (He/him/his.) And Iana is a filmmaker, mom, and dog lover, who brings a unique global perspective to contemporary issues. (She/her/hers)
Andrew started his career with the Chicago Tribune… worked for the Sundance Film Festival… served as the Artistic & Executive Director of the RiverRun International Film Festival (Winston-Salem, NC)… and today is the President & CEO of the Albuquerque Museum Foundation. Along the way, he’s written for countless publications and also makes films.
Iana worked as a film producer in France for 20+ years, and has lectured extensively about media and filmmaking in the United States (some academic highlights: Wake Forest University, University of Colorado Boulder). Currently she is developing a new course for the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico and co-leads By and Large Media Labs.
